FootballMania Coronavirus Update
The NFL plans to play a full 18 week schedule, but we realize the schedule can change and games can be postponed at any time due to the impact of the coronavirus. Please know that CharityMania has contingency plans in place so that all promised prize money will be paid regardless of any schedule changes. The total number of winners, prize money awarded, and odds of winning will not be affected by schedule changes or postponed or cancelled games. You can raise money with FootballMania confidently regardless of any changes to the schedule.
Contingency plan: Postponed or cancelled games
If individual teams have games cancelled or postponed to a later week in the season, then we will treat those teams as though they have a “bye” in the affected week. We will use the team’s score from the last game in which the team had a score. For example, if the bye occurs in Week 8, then we will use the team’s scores from Week 7.
Contingency plan: League-wide schedule changes
If the NFL adjusts or postpones its schedule, but plans to play all 18 weeks of the season, then we will adjust our schedule accordingly and calculate winners on the new dates provided by the NFL.
Contingency plan: League-wide cancellations
If the length of the NFL season changes and they play fewer than 18 weeks, then we will implement our contingency plan to calculate winners and award prize money during any missed weeks by using the football scores from a random week in a prior season.
The random prior season will be chosen based on the last digit of the Dow Jones Industrial Average at the close of the market on the Monday that we would normally calculate winners for that week. The last digit (the hundredths digit, i.e. to the penny) will represent the year we will use. For example, if the Dow Jones closes at 21350.62 then we will use the number “2” and therefore the 2012 season would be our randomly selected season. Keeping with this example then, if the NFL Week 3 is cancelled, then we would use the Week 3 scores from the 2012 season instead.
College football plans to play a normal, full schedule, but we realize the schedule can change and games can be postponed at any time due to the impact of the coronavirus. Contingency plan: nation-wide cancellations
If the length of the college season changes and they play fewer than 10 weeks, then we will implement our contingency plan to calculate winners and award prize money during any missed weeks by using the football scores from a random week in a prior season (between 2010-2019).

Major League Baseball (MLB) is currently playing a full 162 game schedule, but we realize the schedule can change and games can be postponed at any time due to the impact of the coronavirus. Please know that CharityMania has contingency plans in place so that all promised prize money will be paid regardless of any schedule changes. The total number of winners, prize money awarded, and odds of winning will not be affected by schedule changes or postponed or cancelled games. You can raise money with BaseballMania confidently regardless of any changes to the schedule.
League-wide schedule changes
If MLB pauses the season for any reason and then resumes and plays at least 10 weeks, then we will adjust our schedule accordingly and calculate winners based on the new dates provided. If MLB cancels games and plays fewer than 10 weeks, then we will implement our contingency plan and calculate the winners for any canceled weeks by using the scores from a random week in a prior season. The total number of winners, prize money awarded, and odds of winning will not be affected by any schedule changes. All promised prize money will be paid.
Postponed games – individual teams
If games are postponed due to Coronavirus, the affected teams will earn 0 runs for those postponed games during the current week. This means game cards with the affected teams will have a better chance of winning the low score prizes those weeks. If the affected teams play extra games later in the season to make up for the postponed games, the runs scored by those teams will simply count in the new week in which they are played. All runs scored will count in the weeks in which the games are played.
Teams that do not play for a full week
If a team does not play for an entire week during the BaseballMania game, then we will treat their games as normal postponed games (as described above). Game cards with those teams will have a better chance of winning the low score prizes. If 4 or more total teams do not play in a given week, then there is no way to break ties and calculate low score BaseballMania winners (the math just doesn’t work anymore). Therefore, if 4 or more teams do not play in a week, we will implement a contingency plan. For all affected teams, we will use their scores from the last week in which each team had scores. We will treat the teams as though they had a “bye week”, similar to the way we treat bye weeks in our football fundraisers. This ensures all tickets have an equal and random chance of winning prizes.

The NCAA college basketball national championship tournament is scheduled to begin as normal in March, but we realize that other things can change at any time due to Covid-19. If for any reason the basketball tournament is forced to postpone or cancel games, we have contingency plans in place to ensure that all promised winners and prize money are paid in full. The odds of winning, the amount of prize money awarded, and the overall number of winners will not be affected by any schedule changes or cancelled games.
Rescheduled games
If the NCAA postpones the tournament or reschedules any games, then we will adjust our schedule accordingly and calculate winners after the games are played.
Teams that must forfeit
If an individual team must forfeit a game, then they will receive 0 points for that game and be eliminated from the tournament. Their opponent would be awarded a victory and advance. The winning team will receive points for that game equal to the average number of points that all winning teams in the tournament have scored up through that round. For example, if a team is awarded a victory in Round 4 due to a forfeit, then they would receive the average points that all winning teams have scored through Round 4. If the average points scored by all winning teams through Round 4 was 73 points, then the winning team would get 73 points for that forfeited game.
Tournament stoppage or cancellation
If the tournament begins but is stopped or cancelled before a winner is crowned (i.e. the tournament does not complete all 6 rounds), then we will simply calculate winners based on the total points scored by the teams through the last fully completed round. For example, if the tournament were cancelled sometime during Round 5 (the Final Four), then we would use all the scores accumulated through Round 4 and calculate winners. The odds of winning, the amount of prize money awarded, and the overall number of winners would not be affected.
If the tournament is cancelled before it starts or completes Round 1, then we will calculate the winners by using the teams and scores from a random previous year’s tournament (between 2010 – 2019). To determine the year we will use, we will take the very last digit of the Dow Jones Industrial Average at the close of the market on a day after the tournament cancellation is announced (see website for details at that time). The last digit (the hundredths digit, i.e. to the penny) will represent the year we will use. For example, if the Dow Jones closes at 21350.62 then we will use the number “2” and therefore 2012 as our random tournament year.
Professional golf plans to play all 4 majors, but we realize the schedule can change at any time due to the impact of the coronavirus. CharityMania has contingency plans in place so that all promised prize money will be paid regardless of any schedule changes. The total number of winners, prize money awarded, and odds of winning will not be affected by any schedule changes or postponed or cancelled events. Here are our contingency plans for GolfMania:
Postponed or rescheduled tournaments
If a major tournament is postponed for any reason but played at a later date, we will adjust the GolfMania calendar accordingly and calculate winners and award prize money as normal when the tournament is played. We will update the new dates on our website to match the new tournament dates. GolfMania tickets can be activated up until the new dates before each tournament is played.
Cancelled tournaments
If a major tournament is cancelled, we will implement our contingency plan and use scores from a replacement tournament to calculate winners. We will try to use another (not yet played) major tournament as a replacement. If that is not possible, we will choose an alternate tournament as a replacement and update the website with details. The golfers on the GolfMania game cards that were assigned to the cancelled event will simply be awarded their scores from the replacement tournament. The total number of winners, prize money awarded, and odds of winning will not be affected.
